Who can apply and what is accepted?

This opportunity is open ONLY to Artists of the BC Southern Interior (YLW catchment) region, from Osoyoos to Salmon Arm. We welcome ALL cultures, indigenous and non-indigenous. We require a $25 membership with SWAC. If you are accepted, an additional $10 to exhibit at the airport must be provided.

This is not an art show.  The goal of the airport art kiosk is to sell! With 1.5M travellers through YLW, and if only 0.5% buys an artwork for $100, that is a staggering $750,000 in income for our valley artists.

  1. Follow the Guidelines below. 
  2. Send your SWAC membership payment of $25 through PayPal (include the added fee); or send an etransfer to [email protected]
  3. Make a note of your transaction ID.
  4. Click onto the Submit Here! link below
  5. Sign up for an account with Green Submissions. Wait for your confirmation email. Accept, then sign in and submit, following the guidelines below.

GUIDELINES

1.    a.  Provide six high quality images of your art. THESE MUST BE SAVED IN ONE DOCUMENT. This can be a pdf, jpg or Word doc.
       b.  The file MUST BE named as: your name_Submission. For example: JoSmith_Submission
       c.  Make a list of the names of each image as follows: Name; Title; Medium; Size; Price
            For example:  JoSmith; Okanagan Rainbows; Oil on Canvas; 8x12; $135
       d.  Artworks must be display ready
       e  Calls are open to 2d and 3d (jewelry, clay, stone, bronze etc). Literary and musical artists are welcome, provided
            musicians can provide an accessible sample of their craft
        f.  All artworks must be Original or Limited Edition.  No mechanical reproductions of any form or kind will be permitted.
        g.  No reproductions of public artwork or statues is permitted
        h.  Accepted artists will be required to give us professionally created business cards
        i.  Provide both a 50 word Artist Statement in the first person, and a short 50 word biography in the third person.

        j.  A Website is optional, but strongly suggested

2.    Subject Matter
  • There is a strict no nudes policy for items for sale at the Airport
  • All items must be Okanagan subject matter.  If artworks are abstract, Artists may suggest in the text portion of their submission how it pertains to the region
  • No items from the prohibited items list as provided by Canadian Airport Transport and Security Authority (CATSA) are permitted

c.    Size
Size limitations will follow carry-on regulations, ie no larger than 21"x14"

d.    Price
Price point: maximum $200. Skyway takes 25% commission, and SWAC takes 5% commission from each sale

CALL PROCEDURE

Calls have a yearly cycle, as follows:

a.    Call to Artists: Nov 1 closing Nov 30
c.     Jury date: Dec 02 - Dec 10
d.    Artists notified: Dec 10
e.    Inventory delivered to SWAC:
       Before Jan 01.

    CHECKLIST

  1. Pay your SWAC Membership fee $25. Note your ID Transaction number
  2. Pick the "Submit Here!" button & login
  3. List your payment transaction number first, then the names of your pieces correctly in the plain-text box
  4. Submit up to six high-quality images of work saved in a jpg, pdf or Word doc with the file name: your name_Submission
  5. Artist Statement & Bio
  6. Indigenous status or not

   while jurying is taking place

    Please ensure you have the following:
  1. Professional business cards 
  2. It is highly suggested (but not mandatory) that you have a website with your profile and artworks or items available. 


​After jurying if You Are Accepted

  1. Pay your $10 airport exhibition fee.
  2. Sign a WAIVER OF LIABILITY indemnifying SWAC from any responsibility or claim for property damage or loss that may arise from your participation in the activities of the SWAC /YLW Skyway Art Gallery
  3. Provide two copies of an inventory of items including total cost, not including taxes 
  4. Ensure works are signed, titled on the back, and wired for hanging
  5. Deliver artworks to SWAC (location tba) as per the acceptance letter
  6. Display cases owned by Artists need to be pre-approved by the SWAC, and be included in their artist submission
  7. If specific packaging is required upon a sale, this is to be supplied by the Artist
  8. If you sell the work before the start of your cycle, congratulations on the sale, but remember substitutions are NOT accepted without SWAC approval

After Jurying if You Are Not Accepted

This is not a complete rejection!  Your art will be able to be exhibited in our other locations as we have them through the year.
​SWAC will display an Artist of the Month from the general Membership on this website, along with an opportunity for sales.
We also have a Brag Page for you to let everyone know about any outstanding art achievements.
Definitely re-apply again next year!

An Article About Jurying

the Artist's Cycle

  1. Artist acceptance is for one full calendar year
  2. Artists have three months​ to sell a piece in the Airport Gallery. If it's unsold after three months, it will be replaced by a new piece
  3. Artists will pick up their unsold works from SWAC (location tba) within one week of removal from the airport, no exceptions
  4. Artists must be aware that a list of incoming inventory needs to be submittted to Skyway a week before intake. Therefore if we've asked you for a replacement piece by a certain date, please make sure you can comply

Payment for Sales

  1. Skyway pays SWAC once per month after we have invoiced them.  SWAC will direct all monies to Artists within one week of Skyway cheque clearing
  2. Artists are responsible for their own GST.  If GST has to be collected, SWAC must be notified prior to your acceptance into the Gallery.
